Man in wheelchair dies after being hit by school bus
A man in a wheelchair who was hit by a school bus Thursday died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Las Vegas police said.
The 81-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was struck by a Clark County School District bus driven by Cindy Jauregui, 36, according to a press release issued late Thursday.
Las Vegas police said the fatal crash occurred at 11:53 a.m. at the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Reno Avenue. Witnesses told police that the bus was westbound on Reno Avenue when Jauregui stopped at a stop sign at Maryland Parkway. When she turned south, she collided with the man who was in the crosswalk just south of Reno Avenue.
The man was rushed to the hospital where he died.
No students were on the bus, according to the district.
“We are saddened by the news of this terrible tragedy,” said Interim Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky in a prepared statement. “The Clark County School District extends our deepest sympathy to the victim and his family. Safety is always our top priority, and we will fully cooperate in the investigation of this matter.”
The case is still under investigation. It’s the 36th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.
