Interstate freeway link meetings scheduled
The Nevada and Arizona departments of transportation will host five public meetings this month to discuss alternatives for the development of an interstate freeway link between Las Vegas and Phoenix.
The meetings will focus on the alternatives being considered and the results of a preliminary analysis for Interstate 11 and the Intermountain West Corridor that could potentially expand a future I-11 to link Mexico and Canada.
All of the meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. The first three are in Arizona, starting today at the Avondale City Council Chambers in the Phoenix area. The second is Wednesday at the Mohave County Public Works Building in Kingman, followed by a third Thursday at the Pascua Yaqui Reservation’s Albert Garcia Auditorium in Tucson.
The Nevada meetings will be Oct. 16 at the community center in Carson City and Oct. 17 at the Nevada Department of Transportation’s District 1 main training room in Las Vegas, 123 E. Washington Ave.
Since July, a study team has completed a “Corridor Justification” report and explored the alternatives for potential routes from Mexico to northern Nevada. The meetings will allow the public to see the recommended alternatives before the study moves forward.
Comments can be submitted at the meetings or at www.i11study.com on the “Get Involved” page.
The two-year Interstate 11 and Intermountain West Corridor Study examines the feasibility, benefits, opportunities and constraints of a proposed new interstate highway corridor. The initial study is expected to be completed next year. Funding for the corridor has not yet been identified.
