Four pedestrians hit on Bonanza Road
Two women were in critical condition Monday afternoon at University Medical Center after they were hit in a crosswalk by a car at Bonanza Road and Wardelle Street, near Mojave Road.
Two children with them suffered minor abrasions from the incident that happened shortly after 1 p.m., according to Las Vegas police officer Larry Hadfield.
A Review-Journal employee who witnessed the incident said the two women were crossing Bonanza Road with the two children from south to north in a crosswalk. Westbound traffic had completely stopped for the pedestrians, and two of three lanes of eastbound traffic also were stopped.
As the two women, a young girl and an infant in a stroller crossed the left, eastbound lane, a gray, four-door Ford Escort came to a screeching halt, striking the two women, he said.
The woman pushing the stroller was thrust into the windshield, breaking it before somersaulting onto the ground. The second woman, also injured, tried to help her but the first woman was unresponsive, according to the witness.
He said it appeared the first woman pushed the stroller out of the path of the moving car. The infant fell out of the stroller, but was not struck by the car.
The passenger and driver exited the car, in apparent shock, he said.
Fatality investigators were not called to the scene, and there was no indication of alcohol present in the initial stages of the investigation.
No arrests or citations have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.
