Workforce grants to boost 10 nonprofits in Southern Nevada

Ten local nonprofit workforce agencies have been awarded more than $11.8 million in federal funds to train Nevadans for the workforce.

The funding will go to nonprofit organizations including HELP of Southern Nevada, Goodwill of Southern Nevada, and Hope for Prisoners, among others.

The funding is aimed at programs that assist adults re-entering the workforce that face barriers to employement, as well as youths getting started or looking for better opportunities.

Workforce Connections, Southern Nevada’s local workforce development board, announced the award for the 2016-2017 fiscal year Wednesday.

The federal funds come from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
