Overland Fire now 95 percent contained
A fire that has burned nearly 7,700 acres in White Pine County is now 95 percent contained, the Bureau Land Management said in a statement Sunday.
The Overland Fire has burned 7,695 acres in White Pine County, about 3 miles west of the Bald Mountain Mine or 5 miles south of the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the statement said. Full containment is expected by Monday evening.
The lightning-ignited fire has been consuming pinion-juniper, brush and grasses in mule deer, elk and pronghorn antelope habitat, the release said. About 81 acres of the Greater Sage Grouse general habitat also has burned.
The fire was first reported about 1:18 p.m. Aug. 8. The fire’s cause is unknown.
Firefighter and public safety remain the top priority as firefighters continue full-suppression efforts.
Nevada Incident Management Team Four is managing suppression efforts.
