Climber who fell 60 to 80 feet at Red Rock rescued

A climber who fell about 60 to 80 feet Thursday night at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was rescued Friday morning.

The man was successfully rescued about 6 a.m. and taken to University Medical Center for evaluation, Las Vegas police Lt. C.J. Jenkins said. His exact injuries are unknown, but they were not considered life-threatening.

The man was climbing about 5 p.m. Thursday on the Epinephrine Trail inside Black Velvet Canyon at Red Rock before he fell, police said.

Police said the rescue team made contact with the climber about 4 a.m. Friday.

Black Velvet Canyon is in the south part of the conservation area, accessible from Highway 160.
