Arizona motorist gets 7 years in DUI death
KINGMAN, Ariz. — A seven-year prison term was imposed Monday on a northwest Arizona resident who pleaded guilty in an alcohol-involved traffic fatality.
Joseph Richard Baird, 54, was convicted of manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol in the October 2014 crash in Golden Valley.
Authorities said Baird, of Golden Valley, was traveling east on state Highway 68 when he turned left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. The operator of the Honda motorcycle, Edward A. Miller, 75, of Kingman, was critically injured in the ensuing collision.
Miller died of his injuries at a Las Vegas hospital five days after the crash.
Prosecutor Jacob Cote said Baird’s blood-alcohol content, measured two hours after the collision, was more than twice the legal limit.
