Woman critical after being struck by SUV on Blue Diamond Road
A man who was suspected of driving while intoxicated lost control of his pickup and struck a woman who was walking on a sidewalk Thursday morning in the south valley, Nevada Highway Patrol said.
The 19-year-old woman was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, NHP trooper Loy Hixson said.
Authorities were called to Blue Diamond Road near the Las Vegas Boulevard intersection about 9:40 a.m., Hixson said. The eastbound truck, driven by a 26-year-old man, jumped the curb and hit the woman on the sidewalk, troopers said.
Witnesses following the driver, who appeared to be leaving the scene, caught the attention of a Metro officer who was conducting another traffic stop on Las Vegas Boulevard, according to Hixson.
The man was pulled over and later arrested for suspicion of DUI, Hixson said.
Las Vegas police and the Highway Patrol are investigating, Hixson said.
