Vegas won’t see moisture from Hurricane Patricia
Though Hurricane Patricia touched down in Mexico on Friday night and brought heavy rain to Texas, Las Vegas won’t be seeing any of that moisture this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures didn’t go below 59 degrees or above 81 degrees Saturday, meteorologist Barry Pierce said.
The upper low-pressure system that brought rain to Las Vegas at the start of last week will push precipitation from Patricia well to the east, meteorologist Justin Pullin said.
Hurricane Patricia, which was a category 5 hurricane before it reached the coast of Mexico and has since weakened to a tropical depression, was the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere.
By contrast, the Las Vegas Valley was “pretty nice and sunny” Saturday and was expected to continue through the start of the week, Pullin said.
Temperatures should remain “very consistent” for at least the next few days, Pullin said. Highs are forecast in the upper 70s and nighttime lows are expected to drop to the low 60s.
Travel from McCarran International Airport to Mexico wasn’t affected by the storm, said Paul Bobson, with the Clark County Department of Aviation. Flights from Las Vegas don’t land near where the hurricane landed.
Puerto Vallarta, the city slated to be affected by the hurricane, was not affected and no injuries were reported. The tourist attractions were fully operational as of Saturday afternoon.
