Storms bring strong winds, heavy rain to parts of Clark County
A thunderstorm system brought 60 mph winds and up to 3 inches of rain in parts of Clark County on Wednesday.
But the system moved north through Henderson and dissipated as it spread out over Las Vegas, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Justin Gibbs.
Little damage was reported, but the storm is expected to linger over Clark County for a few days, causing flash-flood danger to remain across the valley, he said.
“Severe weather is going to be in the cards,” he said, which isn’t unusual for this time of year.
Earlier, winds in excess of 60 mph battered Henderson and Boulder City. The weather service said the storm was strong enough to produce hail, lightning and winds strong enough to bring down trees and power lines.
Thunderstorms dropped about half an inch of rain an hour over northeast Clark County and caused rapidly rising water in washes around Boulder City.
