GOLFERS CAN DONATE TOYS FOR KIDS IN EXCHANGE FOR SPECIAL GREENS FEES

OB Sports Golf Management’s Las Vegas Valley golf facilities are encouraging area golfers to donate unwrapped toys through Dec. 20 in exchange for preferred greens fees as part of the Toys Fore Golf program.

Toys are scheduled to be donated to HELP of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit group that provides programs such as family services, homeless services and emergency resource services.

Five golf facilities are participating in the holiday program:

Angel Park Golf Club, 100 N. Rampart Blvd., is offering 18 holes of golf for $40 Monday through Thursday and $45 Friday through Sunday.

The Legacy Golf Club, 130 Par Excellence Drive in Henderson, is offering 18 holes of golf for $40 Monday through Thursday and $45 Friday through Sunday.

Stallion Mountain Golf Club, 5500 E. Flamingo Road, is offering a four-players-for-$100 bounce-back gift certificate valid for greens fees upon the golfer’s next visit to the club.

Las Vegas Golf Club, 4300 W. Washington Ave., is offering a $35 rate that includes a cart or a $25 rate for those who would rather walk.

Painted Desert Golf Club, 5555 Painted Mirage Road, is offering a $49 rate before 11 a.m. and $29 after 11 a.m.

CONTINENTAL TIRE LAS VEGAS TOURNAMENT PLANNED FOR DEC. 22 AND 23

The 12th annual Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic basketball tournament is set to return to The Orleans Arena, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave., Dec. 22 and 23.

The event will feature Virginia Tech, Bradley, Colorado State, Portland, Georgia Southern, Mississippi Valley State, North Florida and Cal State Bakersfield. Each team will play four games – the first two at campus sites and the final two at The Orleans Arena.

SHORT-TRACK SERIES, MOTORCYCLE AUCTION PLANNED AT THE SOUTH POINT

More than 150 motorcyclists from around the U.S. are set to compete during the Championship Indoor Concrete Short Track event Jan. 11 and 12 at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event will feature four classes of handlebar-to-handlebar races on a polished concrete track.

Gates are set to open at 6:30 p.m., with races scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10 for those ages 6-16 and $20 for adults.

In conjunction with the event, fans will have the opportunity to bid during the 22nd annual Las Vegas Vintage Motorcycle Auction, set to kick off at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 and continue starting at 9 a.m. Jan. 11 and 12. Hundreds of motorcycles are set to be auctioned off during the event.

VOLUNTEER SNOW HOSTS SOUGHT FOR MOUNT CHARLESTON

The U.S. Forest Service is looking for volunteers to be snow hosts on Mount Charleston, providing roadside information about snow play opportunities and engaging visitors at those sites.

Snow hosts will help visitors have fun while reducing the impacts on the forest environment. Experience volunteering in a similar setting is a plus. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and be able to work outdoors in the cold.

Volunteer hours will be on the weekends and holidays, and the average shifts range between three and six hours.

A minimum commitment of two shifts per month is required, and volunteers are needed until the end of March.

RESIDENTS INVITED TO RUN FOR A CAUSE

The MS Run the US 2013 Relay, slated for April 16 through Sept. 17, 2013, will be divided into 22 segments and is seeking 14 people to take part in each leg of this coast-to-coast run. Each segment covers about 140 miles over six days. All proceeds will support multiple sclerosis research.

The relay is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in mid-April and wrap up in New York City five months later. In between, participants will take on a 140-mile leg of the cross-country journey, where they will run about 20 to 30 miles daily over five to six days. Only 14 slots are available.

Recruiting is set to continue through Dec. 31.

LEISURE CONNECTION SOCIAL GROUP OUTINGS PLANNED EACH MONTH

Leisure Connection for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is a social group planned each month. The outings are geared to assist high-functioning adults with social skills and independence in the community. Activities include bowling, movies, lunch/dinner, sports events and leisure education classes. CITY MAKES REGISTRATION FOR RECREATION PROGRAMS EASIER

The city of Las Vegas has launched its new online registration system, RecTrac, which offers customers an easy way to participate in recreation activities, city sports leagues and Safekey.

By visiting recreation.lasvegas nevada.gov, customers can browse listings as a guest or log on as a registered user to enroll in programs and activities offered by the city. Customers can also call 702-229-2330 or come into a recreation center to register and pay during normal business hours. Safekey payments can be made online, by phone at 702-229-3399 or at the Safekey main office, 1651 S. Buffalo Drive.

Programs and activities that require prerequisites or age verification may not be eligible for online registration.

Those who already have an account through the city’s previous online registration system will need to use the phone number they gave when they opened the account for the user name. The password will be the primary account holder’s last name. Those needing to open a new account should follow the instructions on the website.

REGISTRATION BEGINS FOR SPORTS AND RECREATION PROGRAMS

The North Las Vegas Recreation Division’s Activity Schedule of classes, sports and recreation programs is now available.

Registration can be conducted online at cityofnorthlasvegas.com or in-person at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, and the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St. A list of offerings is available on the website.

The city’s recreation division offers a variety of affordable activities for adults and children, including personal training at the gym, adult and child dance classes, gymnastics, ceramics and martial arts.

Each of the programs encourages healthy exercise and social activities.

NEW A.G.E. EVENTS FOR THOSE WITH DISABILITIES PLANNED

New A.G.E. for those 22 or older with developmental disabilities is set from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive. The program offers a variety of activities and special events that promote individuality, self-esteem and independence. The cost is $21 for one to three days, $28 for four days and $35 for five days each week.

NORTH LAS VEGAS RECREATION DIVISION ANNOUNCES HEALTH CAMPAIGN

The North Las Vegas Recreation Division has announced its "Get Moving! Get Healthy!" campaign, which aims to encourage healthy exercise and social activities through the division’s programs and sports.

Each month, the Recreation Division will launch an online video highlighting a recreational, social or sports program offered at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, or the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce St.

Featured first is the Recreation Division’s martial arts class offerings. The campaign also will highlight activities from its Social Seniors and after-school programs.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM PLANNED FOR THOSE 7 TO 21

The Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Program for those ages 7 to 21 with disabilities is set from 1 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days, per person.

WHEELCHAIR ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT FREMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Wheelchair athletes open gym and wheelchair basketball practice for those ages 14 to adult is available from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Fremont Middle School, 1100 E. QUAD RUGBY PRACTICE OFFERED WEEKLY

ADAPTIVE CYCLE CLUB MEETING PLANNED FOR SATURDAY

An adaptive cycle club is set to meet from 9 to 11 a.m or 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, 7351 W. Alexander Road.

The cost is $2 per person.

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF LAS VEGAS SEEKS TEAM MEMBERS

Girls on the Run of Las Vegas is looking to start a team of girls in third through fifth grade in northwest Las Vegas and Summerlin. The group forwards a youth development program, where girls meet twice a week for discussions regarding empowerment, self-confidence and healthy living. The group incorporates stretching, games and running during that time. At the end of the 12-week program, the entire Las Vegas chapter gets together for a 5K race.

FORMER PROS TO LEAD BASKETBALL CLINIC TO HELP FIGHT OBESITY

The Las Vegas chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association is joining forces with the JYD Project in Henderson, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Whitney Elementary School’s Village of Hope to fight childhood obesity.

Association members plan to assist Whitney Elementary School students with an hour long basketball clinic and Q-and-A session on health and wellness at 4 p.m. Dec. 19 at the John C. Kish Boys & Girls Club, 401 Drake St., Henderson.
