Police arrest suspect in fatal stabbing near downtown Las Vegas

Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing early Saturday near downtown Las Vegas.

Julio Aguero-Alvarez, 34, was arrested Saturday morning, Metro said in a news release.

About 2:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 300 block of North 16th Street, the release said. Other officers in the nearby area of Bruce Street and Stewart Avenue saw a woman being chased by a man, the release said. The man was detained, and the woman led officers to the location of a man suffering from multiple stab wounds inside a nearby residence. Metro said that two men were arguing over the woman before one stabbed the other, according to the release.

The man was transported to University Medical Center where he later died, the release said. His identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Aguero-Alvarez is being held in the Clark County Detention Center where he faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon, the release said.

Metro said this is the 35th homicide the department has investigated in 2016. No more details were immediately available.
