Pedestrian struck in crash near Las Vegas airport dies from injuries

A pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle Jan. 28 near Harry Reid International Airport has died.

The crash occurred just after 4:35 a.m. in the area of West Sunset Road and Las Vegas Boulevard South, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jeff Dean.

Investigators say a 2015 Nissan was stopped facing north on Las Vegas Boulevard, south of Sunset, in the second left-turn lane for a red traffic arrow.

When the traffic signal cycled to a green left-turn arrow, the Nissan made his left/westbound turn. A pedestrian crossing over Sunset failed to obey the “Walk, Don’t walk” pedestrian traffic control signal and crossed the Nissan’s path of travel, police said.

The front of the Nissan struck the pedestrian, projecting him forward and onto the roadway.

The victim, a 53-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center. He died Saturday, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment.

This is the 20th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2025.
