Motorcyclist killed in south central Las Vegas Valley crash
A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday morning involving a semitractor-trailer in the south central Las Vegas Valley.
The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. on South Jones Boulevard and West Sunset Road, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Michael Rodriguez.
A 2020 Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle was eastbound on Sunset approaching the intersection with Jones. A 2016 Peterbilt semi was westbound on Sunset, attempting a left turn to Jones. Both vehicles entered the intersection as the traffic signal changed from yellow to red.
The Peterbilt entered the Kawasaki’s path of travel. The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old Las Vegas man, collided with the left side of the truck, suffered mortal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Peterbilt remained at the collision scene and did not display any signs of impairment.
The rider’s death marks the 86th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024. The collision remains under investigation by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release the identity of the motorcycle driver as well as cause and manner of death after relatives have been notified.
