Man stabbed to death downtown Saturday identified
A man stabbed to death downtown early Saturday morning has been identified.
Antonio Leon-Mendoza, a 31-year-old resident of Las Vegas, was stabbed to death early Saturday, the Clark County coroner’s office said. His death was ruled a homicide.
About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a reported stabbing in the 300 block of North 16th Street, Metro said in a news release. Nearby, in the area of Bruce Street and Stewart Avenue, other police officers saw a man chasing a woman, the release said. The officers detained the man, and the woman led the officers to a man—later identified as Leon-Mendoza— who was suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to the release.
Metro said the man detained had argued with Leon-Mendoza over the woman before the stabbing. Leon-Mendoza was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said.
Julio Aguero-Alvarez, a 34-year-old resident of Las Vegas, was arrested Saturday morning. He faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon, police said.
Metro said this was the 35th homicide investigated by the department in 2016.
