Las Vegas police shoot, kill man
Las Vegas police officers shot and killed a man while investigating a domestic disturbance in the northeast valley Monday night.
Officers were called to 2842 Taurus Court, near Las Vegas Boulevard and Pecos Road, about 11:30 p.m.
Police said early evidence indicated a suicidal man at the home pointed a gun at officers, who then shot him.
It was not known how many officers fired.
A visibly distraught woman at the home declined an interview Tuesday afternoon.
“I don’t think there’s much we can say right now,” the woman said.
The county coroner’s office has not officially identified the man.
Neighbors said they did not know the residents of the home beyond a first-name basis. They said the man lived with a woman, but they did not know their relationship.
A neighbor said the man and woman had moved in about a year ago and were quiet and kept to themselves.
County records and neighbors’ statements indicate the home was a rental property, like many others in the neighborhood.
One resident said there had been a holiday party at the home where children were present.
There were several empty cases of beer by the trash on Tuesday. One of the several vehicles in the driveway had Montana license plates.
It’s unknown whether the dead man was a local resident.
Police did not return phone calls seeking details Tuesday afternoon.
This was the eighth officer-involved shooting in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.
The last fatal encounter occurred May 27, when two officers shot and killed 35-year-old Alberto Castillo as he held a pair of scissors to a woman’s neck.
Officers involved in Monday’s shooting will be identified 48 hours after the incident.
