Irish artist teams up with Academy students for Fremont mural
Neonopolis is falling in line with buildings on Fremont East and is getting a little facelift.
Internationally known painter and sculptor Graham Knuttel of Ireland is teaming up with students from the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts to paint a mural to be placed on the Neonopolis building.
The will be one of his largest works ever, and will be displayed permanently on the southeast corner of the building.
Knuttel is one of Ireland’s most successful artists, with an acclaimed style all his own.
According to Examiner.com, Knuttel will be joined by 13 handpicked students to paint a 9-foot-by-27-foot mural close to the top of the building. In January, Knuttel and the students agreed to “mobsters” as a starting theme.
Examiner.com writes, “Knuttel pointed out that Las Vegans will see the work all the time and tourists once or twice so it should be relevant to Las Vegas and encompass connectivity with the environment.”
In November, the artist opened the Knuttel Gallery at The Venetian and Palazzo resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. You can view some of Knuttel’s work on his website.
