Fire damages four units in Summerlin apartment complex

A blaze that was deemed accidental caused $150,000 in damage to four units in an apartment complex in the northwest valley Monday afternoon, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

At 4:29 p.m. firefighters arrived at the Summerlin Entrada apartments, 1701 Rock Springs Drive, west of U.S. Highway 95. The fire was extinguished ten minutes later.

While the contents of the four units were saved, there was heavy damage to an attic area. Two units sustained light smoke odor. A fire department official said the blaze began behind a wood-burning fireplace or in the attic directly above the fireplace in an upstairs apartment.

An occupant told investigators he had burned a log earlier in the day.
