We have so many choices when it comes to dining out, and that’s why this is such a great city. Salvadorian food? Of course. Most dishes begin with pupusas, similar to corn tortillas only thicker and stuffed with cheese, beans or meat. Pupusas revueltas are filled with cheese and pork, while others may contain just rice or chicken. Featured entrees are fried plaintains with eggs, fried or steamed corn tamales, pork and chile tamales, and steak with eggs, beans and rice. Among the dinner entrees are bistec picado (chopped steak), steak with fried onions, chicken in cream, beef stew with potatoes, camarones endiablados (hot, spicy shrimp), beef tongue, costilla frita de puerco (fried pork ribs), shrimp in garlic sauce, steak with cheese and avocado, and milanesa arroz y papa, breaded steak with potato. Popular soups are Seven Seas, shrimp and beef. Several Mexican dishes are tacos, chicken enchiladas and beef burrito. The breakfast menu has eggs with bacon, ham or sausage and huevos rancheros. Enjoy a seafood cocktail with shrimp or octopus and ask about the milkshakes made with papaya, melon, strawberry and banana. Dinner entrees begin at $8 and breakfasts at $6.25. El Triunfo is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
