MEETING ON WARD 5 PROJECTS RESCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY

Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow’s neighborhood meeting on projects in Ward 5 has been rescheduled from last month to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St.

Barlow is seeking feedback from residents on the upcoming projects, the community master plan and potential expansion of the redevelopment area.

CITY LICENSING OFFICE TO RELOCATE
TO RANCHO DRIVE

The city of Las Vegas licensing office is set to relocate beginning at noon Monday to the Development Services Center building at 333 N. Rancho Drive.

The last day of business in the office’s location at Las Vegas City Hall, 400 Stewart Ave., will be Thursday.

The office is set to open for business at its new location at midday.

Operating hours in the Development Services Center building are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, with first-floor counters open at 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

Caesars Entertainment Las Vegas Resorts is offering several deals and discounts on food and entertainment for military members in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

A discounted rate of $93 per night on hotel rooms at all resorts and complimentary unlimited buffet passes are available at eight hotels.

Seven resorts plan to offer discounts on show tickets and spa treatments, including two-for-one tickets to Bally’s “Jubilee!” show, 3645 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and for adult hypnotist Anthony Cools at Paris Las Vegas, 3655 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

SENIOR APARTMENTS TO BE RENOVATED DURING DOWNTOWN CARES LAS VEGAS

The El Cortez, 600 E. Fremont St., plans to sponsor Downtown Cares Las Vegas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Volunteers from several Fremont East Entertainment District businesses will join to help renovate the Robert Gordon Plaza senior citizen apartments, 509 N. 11th St., alongside other sponsors such as Zappos.com and the Metropolitan Police Department.

St. Viator to host holiday bazaar

The St. Viator Women’s Guild is planning to host a holiday bazaar from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the parish center, 2461 E. Flamingo Road.

Girl Scouts plan weeklong auction

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, 2941 Harris Ave., are set to host a weeklong auction from midnight Nov. 18 to 11:59 p.m. Nov. 25 benefiting leadership program opportunities for girls.

The auction includes items such as tickets to Blue Man Group shows and Las Vegas Wranglers hockey games, a stay at Primm Valley Casino Resorts, a helicopter fly with the Metropolitan Police Department and more.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension plans to offer a grant writing class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

Pamela Kahn Van-Pelt, an emeritus resource specialist for the Cooperative Extension, will teach nonprofit and government organization participants how to develop a community needs assessment, set goals, write outcome objectives and develop a budget. The cost is $25 for materials.

HEALTH DISTRICT ANNOUNCES HEALTHy HOLIDAY CHALLENGE

The Southern Nevada Health District announces its Get Healthy Holiday Challenge, a web-based program offering a weekly challenge and tools to track progress through the holidays.

Each week a healthy challenge email will be distributed to encourage lifestyle changes, such as a daily 15-minute walk or eating three servings of vegetables a day. The program also will provide weekly tips, recipes, an interactive blog, prizes and more. The site also includes information and resources for a healthier lifestyle.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SEEKS BOX TRUCK

Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas is in need of a box truck. The one it used to pick up appliances, furniture and building materials is no longer repairable.

MEETING TO DISCUSS LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT FOR GRAND CANYON DAM

The public is invited to attend a meeting on a long-term development plan regarding the timing and water volume flows of the Grand Canyon Dam.

The meeting is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Ramada Las Vegas, 325 E. Flamingo Road.

Those who attend can learn about and comment on the Long-Term Experimental and Management Plan, designed to improve and protect resources of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon National Park and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

MILITARY BRIDES CAN GET FREE GOWNS

Couture Bride plans to honor military brides with free designer wedding gowns beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 11 at its showroom, 950 S. Durango Drive.

Gowns will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Brides are encouraged to come early to secure their place in line, as there is a limited supply.

To qualify, brides or their fiances must be on active duty in the military, either currently deployed or deployed within the last five years, to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Libya or Japan. Identification and deployment papers must be presented at the event to qualify.
