“Around the Corner: From Shoeshine Boy to College President” tells the true tale of Louis C. Vaccaro. The son of second-generation Italian immigrants was born in Los Angeles in 1930. From early childhood, he picked up odd jobs to help support his family. Vaccaro’s father always said, “You don’t work, you don’t eat!” And Vaccaro took it to heart.
Question: My crocuses and tulips are poking their heads out of the dirt in my garden. They’re growing. We have had great spring weather in January. Should I let them continue, or should I put some more dirt on them?

(Regarding “Rugby beginning to thrive in Las Vegas Valley,” Jan. 31), first of all, I love this sport and put an incredible amount of volunteer time in promoting and encouraging (it), so I appreciate the fact (reporter Lisa Carter) took the time to write this piece. For rugby to get any exposure in the media locally is a true step forward in making this game the best it can be.
I agree that knowing the non-negotiables, and really understanding what that means, can help a person understand their position in a relationship (whether for good or bad). I will disagree with one thing you said. You poetically stated that “We don’t get to decide when we fall in love. Or with whom.” While I understand the sentiment, it suggests an inability of the person to have responsibility over a significant portion of their lives.

Question: I heard it is best to move rock away from my shrubs and replace it with mulch. What is your recommendation?
