MOB MUSEUM MAKES CHANGES

The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, also known as The Mob Museum, hired Ceres Hill as marketing director. She has worked as senior marketing and public relations manager for Cirque du Soleil, Resident Show Division, Las Vegas.

Amy Ayoub, president of Moving People to Action, and Michael Cornthwaite, owner of the Downtown Cocktail Room and co-owner of Emergency Arts and The Beat Coffeehouse & Records, have joined the board of directors of 300 Stewart Avenue Corp. , the nonprofit board overseeing the museum’s development, management and operations.

FOOTBALL AND CHEERLEADING CAMPS set

Lauvale Sape, a former Buffalo Bills nose guard and current defensive standout for the Las Vegas Locomotives, is scheduled to host a youth football camp Thursday through Saturday at Ed Fountain Park, 1400 N. Decatur Blvd.

A handful of NFL players also are scheduled to attend.

Morning sessions for those ages 7 to 14 are scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon. Afternoon sessions for teens 15 to 18 are planned from 5 to 9 p.m.

Registration fees are $200 for the younger group and $275 for the older group. The camp is non contact for the younger attendees and full contact for the older participants.

A cheerleading camp is scheduled for 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday and Saturday. Girls ages 7 to 14 can attend, and there is a registration fee of $195 per person.

LOCAL YMCA TO PARTICIPATE
IN NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, is participating in the National School Lunch Program, a federally assisted meal program providing nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to students.

Anyone ages 2 to 18 can receive a free lunch at the Heinrich location from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, Monday through Aug. 26.

DISTRICT COURT JUDGE JACKIE GLASS RESIGNS For CBS TELEVISION SERIES

Eighth Judicial District Court Judge Jackie Glass is stepping down from her bench into a new role as host of the CBS syndicated TV series “Swift Justice.”

Glass presided over specialty courts including drug, felony DUI and mental health.

The Commission on Judicial Selection is expected to recommend three candidates to Gov. Brian Sandoval for his selection for appointment to the seat. The process is expected to take several months. For more information about the Eighth Judicial District Court, visit clarkcountycourts.us.

TO HOST MUSICAL FUNDRAISER

It’s time for city of Las Vegas pool season to begin. Pools scheduled to be open are:

Doolittle Pool, 1950 N. J St., Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.;

Carlos L. Martinez and Darrio J. Hall Family Pool at Freedom Park, 889 N. Pecos Road, Monday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., and Monday through Friday, 7 to 9 p.m.;

Baker Pool, 1100 E. St. Louis Ave., Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., beginning Monday ;

Garside Pool, 300 S. Torrey Pines Drive, Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., beginning Monday ;

Municipal Pool, 431 E. Bonanza Road, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 p.m., beginning Monday ;

Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive, Monday through Friday, 6 to 8 a.m. adult lap swim; noon to 4 p.m. all ages; 4 to 7 p.m. adult lap swim; Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 p.m. all ages; beginning Monday .

Daily fees are $1 for swimmers 4 to 17, $2 for swimmers 18 to 49, $1.50 for swimmers 50 or older; and free for children 3 or younger.

All-summer pool passes (valid through Labor Day) cost $40 for individuals or $60 for a family of up to eight people, and $30 for adults 50 or older.

Each pool plans to offer private, semiprivate and small group swimming lessons. Private lessons are $100, semi-private lessons (two or three students) are $50 and group lessons (four or more students) are $25 for six 45-minute lessons. Swim lesson sessions begin next week. Each pool plans to offer novice competitive swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo teams for swimmers 7 to 17 for $25 for the entire summer pool season. From 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, there are limited lanes for adult lap swim only at Municipal Pool.

The 22nd Annual Juried Show at the Contemporary Arts Center inside T he Arts Factory, 107 E. Charleston Blvd., is being shown at the gallery until June 18.

This year’s juror was Julie Sasse, chief curator of modern and contemporary art at the Tucson (Ariz.) Museum of Art. The artwork displayed covers a variety of mediums, including paintings, drawings, sketchbook art, sculptures, photography and video installations.

This year’s winners were first prize, Kim Fink; second prize, Matthew Couper; third prize, Suzan Shutan; Best in Show, Philip Denker; and honorable mentions Christine Pinney Karkow and Joshua Levin.

smokey bear exhibit on display at lied discovery children’s museum

“Smokey Bear & Woodsey Owl: Home Sweet Home” is scheduled to be on display through Sept. 25 in the Cultural Gallery at the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

The exhibit was developed by the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service to spread the messages of wildfire prevention and wildlife conservation.
