LEGAL AID CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEVADA RECEIVES capital campaign donation

The Engelstad Family Foundation plans to donate $3.9 million to the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, 800 S. Eighth St., as part of the group’s $13 million Capital Campaign. The $13 million cost includes the land and a 35,000-square-foot energy-efficient facility.

The donation allows construction to begin on the building this summer, with $600,000 more required to complete the building’s interior. Fundraising will continue.

The center also received HUD Community Development Block Grants from the city of Las Vegas and Clark County totaling $5.5 million.

The additional space is to include conference rooms to train volunteer attorneys, a classroom that can seat up to 100 attendees for free classes for the public on consumer issues, divorce, bankruptcy and more; and separate intake offices to provide privacy for domestic violence victims and a separate playroom so their children don’t have to overhear details of the case.
