Literary Las Vegas: Re’na L. Garcia

Las Vegas author Re’na L. Garcia surveyed more than 100 pastors’ kids, or PKs as she calls them, for the book “Raised in the Pew.” She hopes the book will give pastors insights into what their kids may be going through and help them find a healthy balance between pastoring and parenting. Much of her advice is universal as she counsels parents to put family first. “Maybe you never thought being a Pastor’s Kid is a job, but it really is,” she said. “Experience has taught me this valuable lesson: from the time that you, as a parent, dive into the ministry, your children join you. From that point on, for you and your family, your life is no longer your own.”

Excerpt:

What other kid can say that they were part of the choir, the dance team, the stage crew, the A/V team, and still played the lead role in the Christmas production every year for twelve years?

PKs can start their acting careers from birth as baby Jesus and graduate to Mary or Joseph by age thirteen. I guarantee you that a large percentage of PKs, male or female, knows how to make a beard out of coffee grounds or has used a Burger King crown for the all-important role of a wise man.
