I read with interest your article on the lack of trailhead parking at the Hualapai Canyon Trail ("City of Las Vegas plans to correct trailhead parking issue," Aug. 9 Summerlin View).

In addition to the lack of parking that you described, I have also been struck by the lack of suitable sidewalks by which to access the trailhead. I have only driven by, but as I recall, there is no sidewalk leading to the trailhead from the south on the same side of the street as the trailhead. Furthermore, the sidewalk that leads to the trailhead from the north is not particularly pedestrian-safe or pedestrian-friendly because portions of it run directly alongside the roadway, rather than being set somewhat back and therefore protecting users from wayward cars.

One of the great features of the Summerlin trails system is the safety it affords pedestrians, giving us areas in which we can walk without risk of being run over. The Hualapai Canyon Trail looks beautiful and inviting, but until I can get to it without putting me (and my hounds) at risk, I won’t be taking advantage of it.
