Favorite sons & daughters

Bosley graduated from Mojave High School in June and has enlisted in the United States Navy. He is the son of Tom and Christina Bosley of North Las Vegas.

Diangelis M. Nieves Gonzalez, 20, graduated June 17 from basic training at the United States Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, S.C.

Gonzalez, a 2008 graduate of Clark High School, is the daughter of Ramon and Carmen Nieves of North Las Vegas.

Amanda Han, a student at The Meadows School, was a finalist in two events at the United States Fencing Association’s Summer National Championships July 1-10 in Reno.

Amanda won the bronze medal in her age group Youth 14 Girl’s Epee and a fifth-place medal in the Division II Women’s Epee event.

She is United States Fencing Association-rated and a nationally ranked fencer.

She has been fencing for five years and is instructed by fencing master Yves Auriol at the Fencing Academy of Nevada.

Amanda is the daughter of Nicholas and Monica Han.

LaQuencia Parker and Kortney Colon have been chosen to participate in the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada Marketing Internship for Girls Program.

The program provides an opportunity for girls to discover and explore marketing- and communications-related career opportunities and gain job skills and professional experience.

LaQuencia, 15, attends Las Vegas Academy as a theater major. She has been a Girl Scout for six years.

Colon, 17, attends Cimarron-Memorial High School. She was placed with Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada through the Summer Business Institute program.

Christina Brunini was named to the dean’s list, first honors, for the fall 2010 and spring 2011 semesters at the University of San Diego, where she is majoring in marketing/business and minoring in finance. She is the daughter of Joseph and Cynthia Brunini of Las Vegas.

Hannah Harrison of Henderson returned home July 14 after spending a year in Germany as a participant of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals.

She began her year abroad with two months of intensive German language training at the Carl Duisberg Center in Cologne, then studied for a semester at the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg and finished with an internship in a variety of fields.

Sarah Fanning of Henderson has been accepted to the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester.

Fanning is a graduate of Advanced Technologies Academy.
