Dining pick of the week: The Lotus Restaurant and Lounge

For 17 years, The Lotus has been one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Henderson for three simple reasons: good food, friendly service and a menu that will satisfy your Chinese craving. House specials include orange chicken, pork chop Mandarin style (breaded chop with onions in Peking sauce), Peking duck, walnut shrimp, seafood in a basket, and sweet and sour eggplant. Then there are the chef specialties such as General Tso’s chicken, teriyaki chicken with broccoli, tofu with mixed vegetables, stir-fried scallops with black bean sauce, ginger beef, Pineapple duck, twice-cooked pork, eggplant Szechwan with beef or pork, sweet and spicy chicken, spicy salted squid and sautéed filet of flounder. Other entrees are garlic chicken, strawberry chicken, moo shu beef, curry chicken, shrimp with peas and carrots, black pepper beef, cashew chicken and beef tomato. There also is chow mein, chop suey, egg foo yong, soups and rice dishes. Daily lunch specials are $4.50 to $6.20 and are served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They include choice of soup, egg roll, fried rice, hot tea and a fortune cookie. Entrees begin at $7.75. The Lotus is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
