Dining pick of the week: Mob Bar

The Mob Bar is designed as a supper club lounge from the 1920s, with silent movies playing and cocktail waitresses wearing flapper-style outfits. Signature cocktails such as Clara Bow, The Charleston, Volstead Act and Tin Pan Alley reflect that time. It’s hip with a retro vibe. And just as hip is the light menu from executive chef Rogelio Fernandez, who has created easy-to-eat snacks to start or end the evening. And each one was created to go with the unusual cocktails. Mozzarella en carrozza is a kicked-up grilled cheese made on brioche with mozzarella and tomato sauce. Arancini di riso is risotto balls filled with romano and mozzarella, while spaghetti and meatball bites have spaghetti twirled on a fork with a meatball on the end. Other selections include clams casino, chicken Parmesan sliders, shrimp spiedini (marinated shrimp wrapped in prosciutto with garlic-herb butter), spicy mussels marinara, beef carpaccio and antipasto plate. Menu items begin at $5. If you want something more substantial, head next door to the bar’s sister restaurant, Triple George Grill. Mob Bar is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
