(Las Vegas Review-Journal)

A driver was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run Thursday night that left a pedestrian dead in downtown Las Vegas, police said.

Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a crash near the intersection of Owens Avenue and Main Street around 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, evidence at the scene indicated a male pedestrian was standing or bent over in the roadway on Owens Avenue in the right travel lane near the sidewalk. A 2006 Nissan Murano struck the pedestrian and projected him onto the roadway.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan failed to remain at the scene and fled eastbound on Owens Avenue. Police said that officers located the Nissan later Thursday night in the parking lot of 905 North Las Vegas Boulevard.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 57-year-old Kurt Hatter, was placed under arrest for hit-and-run related charges, the department said.

The 55-year-old pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma, where he was pronounced dead.
