Clark County officials issue dust advisory through Wednesday night
A dust advisory has been issued for Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night due to high winds.
At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, blowing dust hadn’t reached unhealthy levels, according to Clark County’s Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management. However, officials will continue to monitor conditions and will post an alert online — redrock.co.clark.nv.us/forecast — if dust levels become hazardous.
Airborne dust aggravates respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma. It may be best for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases to stay indoors during dust storms, said officials.
Free air-quality forecasts and advisories can be received via email or text message. Subscription information is available at enviroflash.org. Residents are encouraged to call 385-DUST (3878) to report excessive amounts of blowing dust.
To prevent blowing dust, drive slowly on unpaved roads, don’t take short cuts across vacant lots, fence off barren property or cover it with gravel, rock, or desert-friendly landscaping.
