Clark County buildings to go dark to celebrate Earth Hour
The iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign will go dark for an hour today along with nine Clark County buildings to commemorate Earth Hour 2011.
It’s the third year in a row that the county has darkened the welcome sign for Earth Hour.
The lights will be cut from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. to join the growing worldwide movement to conserve energy and reduce the so-called carbon footprint.
Streetlights will remain on for safety.
Aside from the sign, affected sites will be the county Government Center, Laughlin Government Center, Regional Justice Center, Cora Coleman Senior Center, Bob Price Community Center, Hollywood Park Community Center, Paradise Community Center, Cambridge Community Center and the West Flamingo Senior Center.
Sponsored by the Wildlife Federation, Earth Hour has roughly 5 million supporters in 100 countries.
