Calif.-based street artist transforms old Vegas
Downtown Las Vegas, an area of the valley undergoing a cultural renaissance, has a big, new art project to show off. The Western Hotel and Casino, which closed after 41 years in 2011, is now taking center stage in Los Angeles-based artist Christina Angelina’s latest work of art: a massive mural in spray paint.
According to Angelina’s website, when she’s not bound to the professional constraints of hired commission work for the likes of Neiman Marcus and Louboutin, the UCLA- and NYU-educated artist pours her talent into “the beautifully weathered and sun-stained city walls” of urban areas.
“Angelina is a process-oriented artist and her objective is to find the temporal and raw moments that define a lifetime and then cram all the details and nuances into one image,” the site says.
Angelina is new to the Vegas scene, but her work can be seen throughout the sunny streets of Southern California and the metropolitan area of Montreal.
According to ‘Paint This Desert,’ a blog dedicated to murals and public art, the artist’s second piece in Sin City was painted at the newly-opened Container Park, which is also downtown.
