Attorney: Assemblyman Brooks out of hospital

A lawyer representing a Nevada lawmaker accused of threatening a state Democratic Assembly leader said his client has been released from a hospital.

But attorney Mitchell Posin also said Thursday he had no immediate contact with Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks.

Brooks was arrested Jan. 19 in North Las Vegas after police said they were told he threatened incoming Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Officer Chrissie Coon said Thursday that police have completed their investigation and turned it over to the Nevada state attorney general’s office.

Brooks was taken for a psychiatric evaluation Jan. 25 after police responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at his grandmother’s house summoned medical personnel.

It’s unclear whether Brooks will be in Carson City on Monday when the 2013 Legislature convenes.
