Updated May 12, 2021 - 9:36 pm

Two Las Vegas residents were killed and another is in critical condition after a crash in southwest Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators believe that around 3:06 p.m., a 2004 GMC Envoy drove into oncoming traffic near Blue Diamond Road and Hinson Street, striking a 2014 Toyota Scion head on, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department.

The driver of the GMC, a 29-year-old man, died at the scene. Both people in the Toyota were taken to University Medical Center, police said.

The passenger of the Toyota, a 23-year-old female, died at the hospital and the driver remained in critical condition Wednesday night.

It was unclear if speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

Blue Diamond was closed at Valley View Boulevard for several hours while officers investigated.
