Woman injured in Henderson townhome fire

A woman is in serious condition after a townhome fire in Henderson early Wednesday.

Medical units arrived at about 2:40 a.m. at a townhome at 307 Gayle Ave., near Burkholder Boulevard and North Major Avenue, after receiving a medical alert from the address. First responders found a residence on fire, prompting a Henderson Fire Department response, department spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.

Crews found a 71-year-old woman lying on a bedroom floor. She was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, de Lima campus, in serious condition, the department said.

The fire was contained to the woman’s unit and additional injuries to residents or firefighters were not reported, Richards said.

The fire displaced two adults, who are receiving help from the American Red Cross. Damages are estimated at $21,800 and the fire’s cause is under investigation.
