Henderson firefighters battle 2-acre brush fire

Henderson firefighters are struggling Sunday afternoon to extinguish a 2-acre brush fire in an open area of desert.

The fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. near North Stephanie and Marks streets, just west of U.S. Highway 95, Henderson Fire Department spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said. No buildings or structures are being threatened by the fire.

Firefighters are having difficulty accessing the 2-acre fire, Richards said, because there are no roads in the surrounding area.

“Our fire trucks are built for city streets,” she said, “but wild land fire trucks are taller and built for grassy and brushy areas.”

The Bureau of Land Management has been requested to help extinguish the fire.
