‘Suspicious item’ prompts evacuation of northeast Las Vegas apartment complex

A four-hour evacuation of a northeast valley apartment was prompted by a suspicious item left in a woman’s car by a burglar Tuesday afternoon.

The woman discovered her vehicle had been burglarized about 12:50 p.m. and called 911. Police said she reported a “suspicious item” left inside of her parked car in an apartment complex on the 1600 block of North Pecos Road, near East Owens Avenue.

Arriving officers determined “it was best to investigate further,” Metropolitan Police Department officer Danny Cordero said.

Surrounding apartment units were evacuated as a precaution for about four hours. As of 4:50 p.m., Metro officers were breaking down the perimeter and removing crime scene tape.

It’s unknown what the item was, Cordero said.

Residents were allowed back into their apartments just before 5 p.m., but police stayed on scene to further investigate.
