Fishing Report, Aug. 16

■ LAKE MEAD – Fishing for stripers in Vegas Wash has been good for those throwing top-water baits or jigging. Live bait is difficult to find. Anglers also are finding good striper action in the Overton Arm. The fish generally are in the 1- to 3-pound range and are taking top-water lures.

■ LAKE MOHAVE – High temperatures have limited angler numbers on the southern end of Lake Mohave. Those who are venturing out have found slow fishing for striped bass, though a 14-pound fish and two 7-pounders were weighed in at Katherine Landing over the past week. Catfish have been taking night crawlers. At Willow Beach, trout anglers have had success with stocked rainbows. The best fishing is taking place at dawn and dusk. Spinners and PowerBait are catching fish. This has been a good week for big striped bass. Trout imitations fooled several fish weighing from 12 to nearly 24 pounds.

■ LAUGHLIN – Anglers have been picking up a few stripers along Casino Row. One angler pulled in a 27-inch striper that weighed nearly 7 pounds. The fish took an anchovy.

■ URBAN PONDS – Fishing has been slow but should improve following the Nevada Department of Wildlife catfish plant scheduled for the middle of next week. Anglers have been catching a few bluegill. The limit on these waters is three fish regardless of species.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA – Fishing pressure remains low, but those making the trip and venturing through the weeds at Adams-McGill Reservoir are catching bass. Trout action is slow, but persistent anglers can catch good rainbows. Be prepared to lose tackle in the weeds.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR – Seasonal weed growth is making fishing difficult. Work openings in the weed beds with PowerBait or worms for rainbow trout, and throw lures for largemouth bass.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR – Fishing has been good for crappie, largemouth bass and rainbow trout. The action is best from early morning until noon. Jigs have been effective for crappie and bass, while PowerBait and worms with mini-marshmallows are catching the trout.
