‘Passport to Glamour’ on tap at design center
High fashion and home furnishings will mingle together at Las Vegas Design Center Nov. 13 for “Passport to Glamour.”
Open to trade professionals and connoisseurs of design, the event is scheduled from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at the center, located on the World Market Center Las Vegas campus, 495 S. Grand Central Parkway. Attendees will gain insights about capturing the luxury market.
“Many of Las Vegas Design Center’s tenants will showcase the bling in their own showrooms and we’ve invited some special guests to share their insights on trends in contemporary design,” said Randy Wells, vice president of the center.
“In light of current economic uncertainty, now may be the most important time for designers to determine their own destiny,” said Steve Nobel, chairman of the Luxury Home Alliance and a featured speaker for the event. “Designers have choices. Will our businesses be determined by the market, or shall we determine the market for our businesses? The luxury market has the most potential for growth because affluent consumers — designers’ clients — are the most certain that their desire to live well transcends the uncertainty of the economy.”
Also scheduled to speak is Gary Hutton, known as the “dean of West Coast design.” The San Francisco-based designer’s theatrical presentation will cover his life and career in the world of design.
A panel discussion about the luxury market is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Moderated by Michael Wollaeger, editor-in-chief of Western Interiors & Design, it will feature Henessy Wayser, executive director and chief creative officer of French Heritage; Robert Maricich, chief executive officer of World Market Center Las Vegas and former president of Century Furniture; Nobel and Hutton.
Designers also will have the rare opportunity to have a sample of their best work reviewed during lunch with editors of Western Interiors & Design magazine and see an exhibit of iconic showgirl artifacts.
Many of the design center showrooms also plan special exhibits and information about the luxury market.
