The Great Indoors will present a free seminar about kitchen remodeling and design from 1-2 p.m. Oct. 25 at its Summerlin location, 700 S. Rampart Blvd.

The session, open to the public as well as interior designers and contractors, will cover the basics of good design, preremodel considerations, what’s new in kitchen design and remodeling reality. New ideas in cabinetry and new products will be presented.

The seminar will be conducted in the store’s Great Kitchen vignette. Certified designers will present literature, explain how the store’s remodeling system works and provide information on care and maintenance for a new kitchen.

For each project, the store assigns a dedicated project manager to oversee the entire process and act as a single point of contact for any questions that might arise. In addition, the manager is responsible for coordinating the timely completion of the project and ensuring the quality of the final product.

Reservations are requested, but not necessary. They can be made by visiting the store, located in the Boca Park plaza.

Desert landscapes focus of two-day event

Desert Green, a turf and landscape conference for landscape professionals in the Southwest, will be held Oct. 23 and 24 at Sam’s Town. “Save the Water — Keep the Green” is the theme of this year’s event.

Topics to be discussed throughout the event include pesticide training, irrigation strategies, golf and sports turf management, and landscape design challenges and solutions. Information about the latest technology and services for the desert environment will be available.

The event is sponsored by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Southern Nevada Golf Course Superintendents Association, Southern Nevada Arborist Group, Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, Southern Nevada Water Authority, Nevada Landscape Association, Nevada Shade Tree Council and Southwest Trees & Turf.

Registration fees for the conference are $180 for both days or $105 for a single day. A student discount is available

Workshop set to help with licensing process

The Nevada State Contractors Board invites those interested in applying for a contractors license to attend a free workshop designed to assist them with the process. The session is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Henderson board office, 2310 Corporate Circle, Suite 200.

The state contractors board’s business assistance program was created to provide information to complete the contractors license application process quickly and accurately. Information in locating source documents for the application is provided, as well as a checklist of state and local agencies and other resources.

Additionally, those attending will have the opportunity to have their completed applications reviewed by staff before submitting them for approval.

The state of Nevada requires that all contractors, including plumbers, painters, landscapers, electricians and roofers, be licensed.
