Water safety event set for Saturday at YMCA
The fifth annual Float Like a Duck water safety event will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Bill and Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane.
The free community event was designed to increase awareness of water safety while celebrating the joys of water sports.
Floating is one of the basic steps in learning how to swim and becoming water safe. As part of the campaign, children will learn to Float Like a Duck through song, dance and actual water activity. The float song is available in both English and Spanish versions.
The afternoon activities also will include games and giveaways.
“We are thrilled to be the host site for Float Like a Duck for a second year,” said Dan Dolby, YMCA executive. “The response at last year’s event was very exciting.”
Created by Paragon Pools with the YMCA as a partner, the event is supported by Southern Nevada Health District, Las Vegas Fire Department, KVVU- Fox 5, Metropolitan Police Department, ABC KTNV 13, DK Landscaping, Entravision Channel 15, Water Wings and Danny Romero Designs.
All children attending must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Most of the mums to be at the sale were propagated in the valley and are not usually found in area nurseries. The mums are of various colors, forms and sizes from small cushion mums to large exhibition mums. The plants are priced at $2 per mum or $24 for a baker’s dozen.
