Healthy indoor air focus of upcoming seminars

Do you know how healthy the air is in your home? According to local experts, unhealthy air in your home can cause allergies, breathing problems, asthma and carbon monoxide and lead poisoning.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering free Healthy Indoor Air presentations at various Clark County Library District branches during March.

Upcoming presentations are scheduled for:

Friday, 1 p.m., Healthy Indoor Air, Laughlin Library, 2840 S. Needle Highway, Laughlin;

March 26, 11 a.m., Healthy Indoor Air, West Las Vegas Library, 951 Lake Mead Blvd.

In addition, free test kits to detect radon gas in homes will be given to all participants.

Sixth annual Mission Cool Off to aid area homeowners

Three area households will have their air-conditioning units replace free of charge thanks to the sixth annual Mission Cool Off program co-sponsored by the Nevada State Contractors Board and the Southern Nevada Air Conditioning Refrigeration Service Contractors Association.

Selections will be based on a person’s or family’s special needs.

Only 100 applications for the program will be accepted. They can be submitted through March 31.

The program is not open to tenants, landlords, owners who do not reside at the residence or mobile homeowners.

An application, homeowner waiver and media release forms can be downloaded from the Nevada State Contractors Board website at www.nscb.state.nv.us or by calling Ranya Botros at 486-1165.

Completed forms can be faxed to 486-4665 or mailed to Ranya Botros, Nevada State Contractors Board, 2310 Corporate Circle, Suite 200, Henderson, NV 89074.
