Slippery Slope
Add a cup of hot cocoa to these pieces and you’re ready for the slopes — or, at least the lodge at the bottom of the slopes. Après-ski, the trend men’s designers couldn’t get enough of on fall runways, literally means “after ski.” The look should convey the same cozy tone a wood-crackling fireplace does just after the ski boots come off.
If you tend to welcome cold weather, chances are these items already call your closet home. Even so, the updates designers have graced outerwear with this season justify a few new purchases. The one garment that screams après-ski should be carefully considered. The puffy vest will make you look just as the name suggests: puffy. If your torso has room for the bulk, welcome it. If not, consider the scarf.
Regardless of the scarf’s fabric — wool, knit, cashmere — it’s the styling that will have you ready for Vail. Don’t sling it around your neck and let the ends fall at your sides. Go for the double knot.
Lastly, pick up an accessory clearly constructed for warmth, such as a trapper hat. Be sure to only wear it if you can see your breath outside. Otherwise, you risk garnering stares for silliness not style.
Now all you need is snow in Las Vegas.
