Fall’s Jewels

Jewels and Las Vegas go hand-in-hand but when Jewelers’ Circular Keystone (JCK) comes to town, their relationship inevitably intensifies. This last Jewelers’ Circular Keystone, the fine jewelry trade show at the end of May and early June, proved no exception.

Aside from being beautiful, the most popular pieces from exhibitor to exhibitor demonstrated some similarities. These common denominators officially give these items the title "trend pieces." Here they are, the hot jewelry styles you either already have or will soon wish you did.

MULTI-TASKING

To give today’s multi-tasking woman a break, jewelry designers have embraced the multi-functional concept. Whether it’s earrings featuring removable pieces, a necklace that can be worn in the front or back or a brooch that features two detachable lapel clutches, changeable pieces are in demand. GET THE MESSAGE?

Jewelry designers have started leaning toward pieces that communicate something more significant than just beauty or style. M2 Design by Mary Margrill exemplifies this standard. The line’s tagline, "a conversation worth having," says it all. Feminine strength, guidance, positive energy and self-love are just a few of the messages conveyed through this jewelry collection. PILE IT ON

Much like fashion, jewelry has started layering. Necklaces and bracelets best reflect the trend. Rather than drape on multiple items, jewelers now design pieces that take care of the layering for you. Multiple layers come together in one piece so just one clasp requires fastening, a relief to your wallets and your dexterity-challenged fingers. Pianegonda Gold Mania Necklace, $1,345, Wynn & Co. Jewelry

GREEN DAY

Causes ranging from breast cancer awareness to saving the rain forests have been very cool. Jewelry collections have either warmed up to environmentally friendly ways of manufacturing or they have adopted a good cause and expressed their support from the fashion rooftops. However jewelry designers choose to take on this trend, the result always benefits more than just your jewelry box. Simmons Jewelry Green Bracelet, $125, www.simmonsjewelryco.com

CUFF DADDY

The cuff, that bold piece of wrist jewelry that always hogs the spotlight, doesn’t seem to be wavering in popularity. Expect to see these bangles in every shape and size and expect to give them the limelight they demand. John Hardy Kali Menari Collection Wide Flexible Cuff, $1,495, Saks Fifth Avenue
