Cleavage? Not anymore

The ’90s are back and the tummy is again the highlight.

It’s not uncommon to see those #TBT (Throwback Thursday) images of Alicia Silverstone in Clueless or Kylie Jenner rocking his mom’s bathing suit that immediately highlight the same trends that were rocked in the ’90s.

Grunge-goth, macramé, all things denim and cutoffs worn over sweatpants are hitting the latest collections, and all the trends are happening around and below the waist. This trend is all about belly baring. Think low-slung jeans that barely balance the curve of the hip usually paired with teeny, tiny revealing tops, making the tummy the center of attention.

Think Avril Lavigne’s sheared-off white tank and camo pants or a toned Mel C, Sporty Spice Girl in sports bra and loose sweats. And who can forget a sexy Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time” video rocking a toned tummy and pink and gray sporty outfits.

Fast-forward to today. All our favorite girls are betting for flesh-baring ’90s style to bring outfits of the era back with logo underwear bands peeking out from intentionally loose waistbands and partially-see-through bra. Just take a look at gorgeous catwalk Kendall Jenner in super-tight leather skirt and bra or in one of her favorite Instagram posts, featuring boyfriend jeans and “My Calvins” CK underwear. Then there’s Taylor Swift in high-waisted shorts and cropped long-sleeve knit and Selena Gomez in a cropped long-sleeve cotton shirt and pleated mid-length skirt.

It is not surprising that the six-pack trend is bringing back the sporting pieces, featuring relaxed leather trousers and strappy, ab-exposing tops. As for a sportier look, give the slouchy-pant and crop-top combo a chance and throw in a windbreaker or hoodie.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with this comfy and flattering trend, and be sure that showing off your midsection always works.

The tummy is the new cleavage.
