McGrath: Gary Busey is 3-D

Mark McGrath says “Celebrity Apprentice” co-star Gary Busey is not putting on a wacky act. Busey really is crazy.

Two weeks ago, Busey was at a media party at Society Cafe Encore when he spit a crab cake into his hand and exclaimed, “It’s too hot to play with snakes!”

“As you found out, Doug, spitting food in his hand, and all that — that’s what I dealt with 16 hours a day in a small van,” McGrath says with a laugh.

“If you’re around Gary Busey, you’re gonna smell him, you’re gonna have pieces of him on you, he’s gonna touch you, he’s gonna spit on you, he’s gonna interrupt your conversations.

“Gary Busey is a 3-D experience.”

McGrath says he loves the guy, and that Busey, who suffered brain damage in a motorcycle wreck, still comes up with some genius ideas mixed in with “a lot of sludge.”

“But it’s fun to watch from a safe distance. It’s not fun to be involved with.”

I also asked McGrath whether “Apprentice” rival Star Jones is the devil, because she comes across that way. He just laughed and said, “I’m surprised at how nasty Dionne (Warwick) and Star were.”

McGrath walks a 10 p.m. red carpet Saturday at club Lavo to celebrate his birthday. He turned 43 on Tuesday.

“Lavo’s such a fun place,” he says. “And I’m sure we’ll end up at a gentleman’s club or two, but who knows.”
