Screaming Females really blow doors off their hinges

Screaming Females feature but one female and she doesn’t scream, although her guitar does upon occasion.

But if the New Jersey indie rock trio’s handle isn’t a literal one, their tunes are decidedly more direct, the kind of crashing, coming-right-at-you jams that are meant to be played on the back of one’s heels, instruments held aloft, like broadswords.

Frontwoman Marissa Paternoster is a total badass, a serious shredder who’s wisely judicious with her shredding.

She blows the doors off the band’s hardy postpunk at all the right moments, letting the melodies ebb and flow, and then ripping the kind of leads that would be the envy of every Spandex-clad poodle metaller of decades past.

Are hipsters too cool to play air guitar?

They won’t be when this bunch hits town.
