Rain Nightclub at the Palms to close Sunday

Rain Nightclub, which opened with the Palms in 2001, is being closed.

The casino and 9Group will close the popular club on Sunday to make way for a multimillion dollar renovation scheduled to begin next year, according to a 9Group and Palms statement Tuesday.

The closure of the three-story venue will affect about 50 employees. The 25,000-square-foot facility will host special events over the next few months, including New Year’s Eve weekend performances by Kelly Rowland and Travis Barker .

"Palms and 9Group are tremendously proud of the legacy Rain leaves behind and look forward to the next chapter in the storied history of Palms entertainment," the statement said.

Ghostbar and Moon Nightclub will continue to operate, the company said.

The closure of Rain is the latest in a series of $50 million in planned upgrades and changes to the Palms, which last month completed upgrades to 428 rooms in its original hotel tower.

Other projects include an updated casino floor with a new center bar, a sports bar, Heraea, and a new pan-Asian restaurant, XISHI. The company expects renovations to continue in stages through next year.
