Martin Solveig performing at Cosmo – without Madonna
Madonna’s opening act at the MGM on Saturday and Sunday is Martin Solveig. He produced some songs for her latest album, but is more popular for his own hits “Hello” (featuring Dragonette) and “The Night Out.”
If you want to see Solveig perform without Madonna, check him out today at Marquee nightclub in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
I haven’t talked to Solveig in a while, because the charming French DJ-producer hasn’t been in Vegas clubs lately, since he’s been busy with Madonna.
But last year, he told me the rumor was false as to why he (born Martin Picandet) came up with his DJ name. The false rumor was the name “Solveig” was an ode to actress Solveig Dommartin in the classic romance “Wings of Desire.”
“I picked Solveig because I like the meaning of it. It means ‘way to the sun.’ But also, I like the sound of it,” he said.
During live sets, he plays pieces of pop, rock, dubstep, techno, house and more to make things fun and enjoyable for his crowds. He doesn’t want to turn DJing into a “musical lesson,” he told me.
