Smile big with the Leftover Cuties

In the Leftover Cuties’ rose-colored repertoire, dreams come true, the sun always shines and frowns are like whiskey sales in the 1920s: strictly prohibited.
Speaking of the ’20s, some of the coed California’s quintet’s tunes sound as if they could have been recorded back then, with a vintage ragtime swing.
Take “Smile Big,” for instance, a solar-powered pick-me-up that feels like it was meant to be played on an old Victrola.
“No point in feeling blue / Our days are only few,” frontwoman Shirli McAllen sings over some spirited ukulele and trumpet playing as any clouds evaporate in the sky.
